MARK WEBB

Craftsman, Creator and Founder of River Me Timbers

My passion for timber and ‘river tables’ was kindled about 15 years ago with a slab of camphor laurel I purchased at a Timber and Working with Wood show in Brisbane.

That slab of camphor laurel leaned up against a dozen different places for 13 years until it finally ended up against the back wall of my garage. Eventually in early 2020, after needing to find yet another new spot to store that slab of camphor laurel for the umpteenth time, I decided that I either needed to do something with it or sell it.  I chose to do something and after considering my options, and doing some research, soon after, I finally put my hands to work and I had crafted my first river table.

I worked in the transport industry for many years and making my first table was the trigger I needed to consider a new direction, to make a change and give river tables a go. I fell in love with the entire process and soon after, River Me Timbers was born.

I didn't really have any understanding of where this new direction could take me but after drawing the line in the sand and deciding to give this a go, making river tables has become my passion and my obsession and I am thrilled to be able to share them with you.

HOW THE PIECES ARE MADE

Each piece starts with a timber slab cut to size, set into a mould and filled with resin. It is then flattened, sanded, and coated with a 2-part oil and hardener product to give it a smooth and touchable finish. River Me Timbers takes great care in creating statement pieces that are functional, unique and timeless.
